Icelandic Music – Artists to listen to on the road

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

I am going to list 4 bands/artists (less recognized than Sigur Rós, Björk, Of Monsters and Men, etc.) that might be interesting to buy before hitting the road. In my opinion they are all nice to amplify the experience of Iceland, Icelandic nature and the culture.

I have posted some videos as well as a part of this post to show some of Iceland´s nature in their videos 🙂

We recommend that you buy your music at these stores in Reykjavik.

Vök

Vök creates unique music that takes you to another world. Previous winners of Iceland´s Music Experiment competition (other previous winners are for example Of Monsters and Men).

Samaris

Samaris a text from the website http://icelandmusic.is describes their music as: […] Samaris mix glacial electronica and bold, percussive beats with haunting chant-like vocals – the lyrics culled from nineteenth century Icelandic poems. You could say the words have been delicately sewn together and in a way they already have their song, their own melody when you read them […]

Ylja

Ylja was formed by two girls, Gígja and Bjartey, and with a common passion of vocal harmonies and love for the acoustic guitar the two friends embarked on a musical journey always trying to expand and broaden their sense for creativity.

Ásgeir Trausti

Ásgeir Trausti is  a personal favorite. I recommend that you listen to him in Icelandic (even thought the music video to the left is in english) since I believe that the lyrics are less important and his unique voice is not delivered as well in English (IMO).
